I am a firm believer in the idea that there is beauty to be found in everything, but Las Vegas makes it hard to hold to such beliefs.
I think Manilow pinpointed just what it is I dislike about Las Vegas:
"There's just no quiet in Vegas. "

Hey Val, I know I'm the quiet follower that just enjoys reading but not necessarily commenting. However I decided today that it was important to help you find the beauty in such a place as *cough* 'Sin City.'
ReplyDeleteI have family there, family is a beautiful thing. There is a temple there, and temples are beautiful things. My dad had a really cool experience after working late at the temple. When he was a kid he prayed to see Lehi's vision. He prayed and prayed and prayed but he never saw it. Well, a good twenty years later due to his education and training as a community planner and proficient map reader he knew that there was a disgusting, dirty wash that ran parallel to the road that led up to the temple. This road coincidentally was the zigzaggiest and narrow road that led from downtown to the foothills where the temple is located. So, late one evening as the temple is closing he decided to walk around the back side of the temple where the entire Las Vegas Valley is visible. And he realized, as he looked out over the valley, that he was witnessing Lehi's vision (it may not be exactly what Lehi saw, but it was pretty close). The temple was the tree, the narrow road was the iron rod, the wash was the muddy river and the 'Strip' was lined with tall and spacious buildings.
Even though Vegas isn't necessarily the pretty place it definitely has some beauty. Hope things are going well. :)
